Development and Sustainability
The importance of software in research cannot be underestimated. According to the UK Research Software Survey 2014 (S.J. Hettrick et al, DOI:10.5281/zenodo.1183562), 69% of researchers state that their research would no longer be practical if they could no longer use research software. 56% of the 417 polled researchers develop their own research software.
A formal training in software development is currently not part of the standard curriculum in academic education. The SSC aims to aid researchers at all levels in all aspects related to software development: We offer resources such as
- guidelines and project templates
- small scale development projects (free of charge - contact us!)
- open call development projects (free of charge for successful open call applications)
- funded development projects (as co-PIs or project partners on grants)
